The first place that you can turn to for parenting resources after you divorce is the federal government. Believe it or not, this is true. The federal government has a variety of programs available to parents who need financial help, parenting help and for parents who need help finding local organizations that offer supportive services for parents raising children after divorce. To access these programs you can visit a variety of federal government agencies like the Department of Education, the Federal Communication Commission and the Government Printing Office.

State governments also offer assistance and resources for parents trying to raise children after divorce. These programs usually have financial qualifications that you will need to meet before you are accepted into the program. If you have a low income and need financial, nutritional or medical counseling and assistance then state programs are a good place to look for help. If you don’t have financial needs, but are still interested in finding help and information about being good child divorce parents, then there are educational programs offered by state and local agencies that you can take advantage of. To access all of these programs you will need to contact the state agency responsible for the program. Your local welfare department, social service center, or your local Social Security Office will most likely have the contact information and application information for these programs.

Local resources are going to be the easiest parenting resources that you can find. Most communities will have a community center where you can take parenting courses on how to deal with common divorce issues and how to raise children after divorce. These centers will probably also have flyers and brochures about financial assistance programs and pro-rated counseling services that you can take advantage of. If you go to a church then your minister is a good person to approach about finding help and guidance for raising your children, and for learning how to work peacefully with your ex-spouse. Your children’s school counselor is another good local resource that you can use to find parenting help. They can either counsel you themselves or they can provide you with information about education seminars that you can take.

Your family and friends can also be a great place to turn for parenting advice and emotional support. Being supported by your friends and family will help you to be a stronger, more content parent. This will in turn create a divorce parenting plan and a home environment that will encourage your children to develop into secure young adults.
