Spring officially kicks off next Thursday so this weekend is a great time to do a little Spring cleaning. Spring cleaning originated as a way to freshen a home after a long winter cooped up in a house. Today, it is more of a symbolic activity more than a necessity, however, it can have an amazing impact on your emotional health and mental clarity.
Begin your spring cleaning by clearing out the clutter in your home that has accumulated over the winter. Put away items that you don’t need, recycle what can be recycled, throw away what needs to be thrown away and organize what needs to be organized. A home that is cluttered with a lot of knickknacks, furniture and miscellaneous items inhibit the natural flow of air and energy in the home. This is why you feel so confined and stifled in clutter homes. The state of your home also reflects the state of your life. If your home is cluttered and disorganized, chances are so is your life.
In addition to cleaning out the clutter in your home, your spring cleaning activities also need to include a de-cluttering of your life. This spring try simplifying your life. Reduce the number of activities and responsibilities that you have. Also try combining activities to free up your time for more enjoyable activities. For example, if you need to run errands and exercise, but only have a couple hours free, run your errands on foot or on bike.
Spring cleaning when you are divorced can be a liberating experience. If you have kids, include them in the spring cleaning activities as children of divorce have just as much clutter in their lives as you do. Focusing on family activities like spring cleaning is a big part of a child centered divorce.
