Last week I talked about online dating services as a tool for dating after divorce, today I’d like to talk about a more traditional dating tool, the matchmaker. Matchmakers are people, usually women, who are skilled at matching people based on their personality and preferences. Today, you can still enlist the help of a matchmaker, however, chances are they will be a virtual matchmaker instead of a live person.
Local matchmakers will typically focus their services on a local community or group of people. Local matchmakers may already be familiar with the people that they work with, they may offer their services for free or they may charge a fee for their services. Matchmaking services can be requested by a man, a woman or by a family member of the person who is searching for love. However, the final matches are based on what you want and feel, and not on an arrangement of third parties. You remain in control.
The popularity of online dating services have not eliminated matchmaking services. Instead they have simply modernized these services by putting them online. Today, you can go online and search for matchmakers that serve your area. These services will charge a fee, just like online dating services, however, who they charge and what they charge is going to depend on the focus of the site.
Matchmakers offer more than just dating profiles, they offer solid relationship advice based on their experience. This advice can make dating after divorce easier to do and more successful. However, just like any other post-divorce advice, take it with a grain of salt and do what you think is right for you.
