Relieving Holiday Stress

Last week we talked about how changing the way you look at money during and after your divorce can make you a stronger family of divorce. This week, since we are now in the middle of the holiday season, I would like to talk about stress relief. Something we can all use at this time of the year.

Stress has many negative impacts on divorced families, especially during the holiday months. It can lead to illnesses, physical discomfort (pain) and emotional trauma. It can also lead to arguments, tension between family members and unnecessary conflicts between family members. These symptoms can affect not only your family life, but it can also impact your work life and social life as well in very negative manners.

Fortunately, there are many ways to relieve stress at this time of the year. To start with exercise to relieve stress. Exercise not only will help you to work out your frustrations and tension, but it will also generate a great concoction of chemicals in your brain that will make you feel happier and more able to deal with stress that comes your way.

Having fun is another way that you can relieve stress in your life. Fun activities that you can do with your kids include going sledding, building snowmen, having a snowball fight or just going to a movie with them. While it is important to do fun activities with your kids, you also need to find time to have fun as individual people as well. For example, you can get a babysitter so you can go out for a night on the town with your friends, or you can plan a sleep over for your kids to have fun.
