    Are In the News Again

This month has been a busy one for celebrity divorce news. The year started off with news about both Pamela Anderson’s divorce from short term hubby Solamon, as well as news about the ongoing struggle between Britney Spears and her ex Kevin Federline. The sensationalism spawned by both of these news stories brings up some trouble trends in modern marriages, especially between celebrities. Marriage is being viewed by many celebrities as a disposable commodity that they can use to gain media attention. The problem with this strategy is that their children suffer from their marriage hopping, and they are setting up a pour example for young people who are entering their adult years.

First of all let’s look at the marriage record of Pamela Anderson. While I admire her free spirit, it is obvious from her marriage record to Tommy Lee and Kid Rock, that she is selecting men who are wrong for her. If she didn’t have kids this wouldn’t be so bad, but her young children have to deal not only with the constant disruption of their lives as new step fathers enter and leave the picture, but they also have to deal with the media frenzy during and after these relationships.

Now let’s look at the child custody battle that is being publicly fought between Spears and Federaline. Events that transpired during the first week of January suggest that Britney is breaking down mentally and her ability to care for her children is fading each day. The sad part is, we don’t know if the break down is because of the excessive criticism of her parenting and her very public divorce, or if it is due to a life filled with drugs and alcohol. Perhaps it is from a combination of the two. Still, what ever the cause is, her children are suffering the most from the trauma of this situation.

Today’s divorcing parents’ responsibilities go beyond just providing kids with food and shelter. They also include providing kids with safety and love. Young children and divorce, especially celebrity divorce, often suffer more than we realize. To avoid children and divorce long lasting effects , you need to focus on what is best for your kids both during and after your divorce.
