School has officially begun and now you face a whole new set of divorced parenting challenges. One of the first challenges that you will need to face is figuring out after school child care. This is a complication that many parents have to face as the new school year starts because their summer child care is either back in school as well, or they are facing new scheduling challenges.
The first step in dealing with the fall scheduling challenges that come with children and divorce is to figure out what transportation issues your family has. A good way to do this is to get a big desktop calendar that you can write on. Then create a list of all the rides that kids need. If you have more than one child, assign each child an ink color, and then write in their activities in that color. As you insert the activities that each child has you can start to put together a strategy for making sure someone is there to drop them off and pick them up.
The next step is to work with your ex-spouse and current parenting partner to figure out what rides you can cover, what rides they can cover and what rides still need to be worked out. The rides that aren’t covered will need to be dealt with creatively. You can arrange carpools with other parents, or your can enlist the help of grandparents, aunts uncles and possibly cousins that have a drivers’ license. If your kids are old enough, you may even figure out bus transportation that they can take to and from special after school activities.

It’s important to be organized when dealing with this issue and get in a routine. It may be hard in the beginning, but in no time a rhythm will be set and the stress will be gone
