Summertime Tips for Young Children and Divorce

Summertime is the perfect season to spend extra time with your kids bonding and reconnecting after a divorce. No matter if you have exclusive custody or partial custody, your kids need to know that you cherish them and that you want to spend time with them. Young children and divorce are sometimes difficult to manage. However, simple summer activities can help you to minimize the negatives of divorce and create happy memories with your kids.

The first step in having a happy summer after a divorce when you have young kids is to minimize stressors in your life. For example, if your baby is teething right now, you need to find a teething remedy that will help your baby be comfortable, especially during the hottest part of the summer. Mitigating stressors will help the entire family to relax and focus on having a good time.

There are a lot of fun activities that you can do as a family of divorce. The first activity is to simply go to the park. Playing at the park will provide the entire family with fresh air, fun and a little exercise. Going to a children’s museum or the public library for story time are a couple other activities that are low cost and fun for young kids. If you have toddlers, then taking a family swimming lesson at the local YMCA or participating in a Gymboree or Mommy and Me class can also be a great summer activity that you can share.
