Today we are about a third of the way through Summer break. This means that it is a good time to start thinking about the upcoming school year. If you are divorced and have kids, then it is essential that you look at how the upcoming school year will fit into your schedule.
It is a good idea to look at your divorce parenting plan annually to make sure that it is still working for you and your kids. Since each school brings with it new schedules, activities and professional responsibilities, changes are inevitable. For example, if your child wants to join a sport this year then you will have to put together a pickup and drop off schedule that will work with your work schedule, your ex-spouse’s work schedule or your day care provider’s schedule. Summer is a good time to think about these things.
In addition to school changes, summer is also a great time to figure out if divorcing parents responsibilities need to be adjusted. For example, if you have a child that needs to spend more time with one parent because they are entering puberty and need a same sex role model, then the summer is a great time to talk about making adjustments to the physical custody plan. Also, if you are experiencing major life changes this year, for example, if you are going to have a baby, get married or take on a new career, then the summer is the perfect time to plan for these changes and make adjustments to your parenting plan.

make sure you let your kids understand first the things that will be affected when you go on with the divorce, be extremely careful about what you say because kids have sensitive feelings too.
