This week I’d like to talk about divorce child custody and planning a summer vacation. Now that we are only a few weeks away from school being out for the summer, many parents are trying to figure out a plan with their parenting partners for summer child custody. To start with you will want to look at what is written in your parenting plan. This will outline who has custody when and how summer vacations need to be presented to the other parent.
The way children cope with divorce depends a lot on how well their parents cope with the situation. If they work together, then family life will be a lot easier for the kids. To make planning a summer vacation easier to do you will want to make sure you either plan it for when you normally have your kids or you will want to provide your parenting partner with ample notice about changes in your custody arrangement that you need to make in order to accommodate your vacation.
If you are planning an in-state vacation then you don’t need to provide any additional information to your kids’ other parent. However, it is a good idea to at least tell them where you are going and how long you will be gone for as a gesture of good faith. On the other hand, if you are planning an out of state or an out of country summer vacation then you will need to take care of some paper work before you all leave for vacation. For out of state vacations generally all you will need is a signed agreement that this is all right with the other parent. If you plan on leaving the country, then you will need a notarized statement from the other parent that it is okay for you to leave the country with your kids. Depending on the country you plan to visit, you may need other documents as well.
